Clars Auction Gallery is honored to have been selected to present much of the property of the Thomas J. Perkins Estate in their auction house. Thomas J. Perkins was the renowned Silicon Valley venture capitalist who, through his firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, helped foster the early growth of such major corporate giants as Google, AOL, Amazon, and Genentech. In addition to his genius for analysis and investing, he was also internationally known for his collecting and prestigious lifestyle. Perkins passed away on June 7, 2016 at his home in Marin County, CA.
Clars will bring to auction fine property from both his Belvedere (CA) estate and his grand penthouse in the San Francisco (CA) Millenium Towers. The initial offering of this property will be at their September 17-18, 2016 auction and much of the remaining pieces will be offered during their November 13, 2016 auction.
In an interview with Deric Torres, Vice President of Clars, he said “This is an extraordinary estate and Clars is very honored to have been chosen to handle these important pieces.” He cited just a few examples that would be offered in the upcoming sales including an extremely rare 1851 Humbert $50 gold slug minted in San Francisco, the 2001 Silver America’s Cup Trophy, memorabilia from his famous mega-yacht, the Maltese Falcon, his personal Steinway Model D concert grand piano and an extravagant collection of watches including a rare Mido “Ettore Bugatti” 18k wristwatch, circa 1925 and three Frank Muller gold watches.
This is just a slight glimpse into the incredible lots spanning jewelry, fine art, decorative art and furnishings that will be offered, all of which reflect the lifestyle of this American icon, Thomas J. Perkins.
