NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Margret Carde in Life is But a Dream. The exhibition opens May 22, 2018 and runs through June 12, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, May 24 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
Margret Carde creates ephemeral, pastel-colored scenes influenced by her emotional experiences and the thrill of viewing open land and sky. A picture begins with her recollection of the place, and as it develops, the oil-based pastels she uses come to express emotive connotations through the colors they present. In this manner, her works gracefully refuse to declare anything specific, opting instead to remain open like the landscapes and skies they depict.
What’s essential to Carde’s works is that they present neutrality to viewers’ eyes; their artistry lies in not giving away too much or delivering some message too explicitly. In one work, titled Into Grace, a figure is placed on a road to give a sense of the stature of the cloud formation above him. And in another work, Late Afternoon Rain, a massive orange-hued cloud passes over a grassy field. Is the cloud filled with portentousness and foreboding, or is it simply drifting through the sky? Either way, it has its place in the picture as an object of contemplative beauty.

About the Exhibition
Life is But a Dream is a group show that explores the surreality of memory and identity in a world too often constructed to resemble a mere product on the shelf of popular culture. Comprising 17 artists, the primary link joining them together is how memory can be reshaped by the imagination. These artists all share in examining the content of what they remember, with social and familial life acting as a lens through which they reexamine recollected moments.
