Anderson Ranch’s largest community event, the 35th Annual Art Auction and Community Picnic, will feature over 200 works of art by top contemporary artists available for bid in live and silent auctions. A highlight of the Aspen/Snowmass summer arts and culture scene, the event takes place Saturday, August 1, from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Anderson Ranch. The Annual Art Auction is open to all and offers a festive morning and afternoon full of live music, children’s art activities, a gourmet picnic lunch and more as part of the art-infused experience.
“The Annual Art Auction is a real manifestation of love and respect for the Ranch by all involved,” offers Nancy Wilhelms, Executive Director of Anderson Ranch Arts Center. “Many of the works in our auctions have a Ranch story to tell—they were either created here, were part of a body of work presented here, or made by artists with a history here. Everyone’s participation means so much to the Ranch, especially on the doorstep of our 50th anniversary next year.”
Curated by Barbara Lee, the live auction portion of the event features an array of works including a Jessica Stockholder sculpture, a photographic print by Alec Soth, photogravure from Shana and Robert ParkeHarrison, handmade paper from Ursula von Rydingsvard, a Hernan Bas print, raku ceramics by Jun Kanenko, a vintage silver print by Amy Arbus, woodfired stoneware by ceramist and Japanese National Living Treasure, Takashi Nakazato, as well as pieces by ceramists John Gill and Ron Nagle. Bonhams’ William O’Reilly will once again serve as auctioneer.
All auction items will be available for preview at Anderson Ranch; live auction works will be on view July 24 – 30 and silent auction works on view July 27 – 31 at the Ranch’s Patton-Malott Gallery and Wyly Painting Building, respectively. Advance bidding for live and silent auction works will be available via Paddle8 from July 17 at 11:00 AM MDT through July 30 at 6:00 PM MDT at paddle8.com/auction/andersonranchcommunity.
