NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of Boguslawa Czarnecka in The Figure and Unknown Places. The exhibition opens July 7, 2018 and runs through July 27, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, July 12 from 6-8 pm. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
Boguslawa Czarnecka’s vibrantly abstract paintings consider themes of love, beauty, and freedom from the burden of everyday anxieties. Working in predominantly oil on canvas, the artist employs a wet-on-wet technique of painting that allows her greater immediacy in capturing her current state of mind onto each surface she paints. She imbues each work with an emphasis on both line and color; although abstract, Czarnecka’s works exude a sense of continuity that pulls the audience into the central focal point of each canvas. Furthermore, the artist often juxtaposes contrasting colors and avoids overly-descriptive titles that allows for greater freedom of interpretation of her illustrious oeuvre.
In works such as Expression 1 (2017), Czarnecka illuminates the majority of the composition in brilliant shades of saffron that are interrupted towards the bottom register with thick, autographic strokes of navy, green, and brown that fervently blend together. Yet, the movement of Czarnecka’s contrasting colors is marginally dictated by undulating, intersecting lines that appear to nearly rotate in a circle towards the center of the canvas. Light strokes of chartreuse, blue, and crimson kiss the top register of the composition, ever so contained by two arrows that guide the viewer’s eyes to a nucleus of resplendent yellow that radiates both positivity and intrigue. The artist is originally from Poland and currently resides in Massachusetts.
