The exhibition opens November 10 and runs through December 1, 2018 with an opening reception on Thursday, November 15 from 6-8 pm. About the Artist
The luminous paintings of Monika Gloviczki are rooted in European artistic tradition. Gloviczki was born in Poland to a painter’s family. Her fascination with art began at the age of 3, when her father presented her with a box of paints. As a young woman, she relocated to Paris, fleeing the Communist threat. While there, she studied to be a doctor. A medical researcher in the field of vascular disease by day, she was a painter by night, frequenting painting courses at the Carrousel du Louvre and the Académie de la Grande Chaumière. She eventually relocated to Rochester, Minnesota, and continues to paint full time now. Strongly influenced by French Impressionists, in America she also absorbed the artistic influence of the American colorists.
Gloviczki works in acrylic and oil. Although her atmospheric paintings clearly demonstrate Impressionist influence, they are also rigorously gestural and expressive. The compositions of paintings like Bridge, for example, or Perspective, are unexpected and powerful rather than subtle or ephemeral. Additionally, in works such as Knight and Nirvana, Gloviczki tends toward abstraction.
