Artist John Henry Twachtman (1853-1902), a founder of American Impressionism, reached artistic maturity while living in Greenwich, Conn. from 1890-1899. There he created the paintings of his home and property which earned him a reputation as the most original of the leading American Impressionists.
The Greenwich Historical Society is pleased to present Life and Art: The Greenwich Paintings of John Henry Twachtman. Featuring vibrant artworks by Twachtman and his contemporaries depicting the artist's Greenwich home and environs, Life and Art brings Twachtman's Greenwich world to life, inviting visitors to consider the artist's relationship to home and work. Life and Art is curated by Lisa N. Peters, Ph.D., an independent scholar and the author of the John Henry Twachtman Catalogue Raisonne, as well as numerous other publications on Twachtman and American Art.
