The New Flux: Naturalizing the Art of Painting

Agora Gallery / October 20 - November 9, 2017

https://www.agora-gallery.com/ExhibitionAnnouncement/New_10_20_2017.aspx

Agora Gallery presents The New Flux, a group exhibition showcasing how natural forms and structures merge with urban settings and landscapes.

The New Flux presents a cross-section of different pictorial practices gathered around the theme of nature in urban life. While this theme extends as far back as the 19th century Impressionism, the New Flux distinguishes itself by emphasizing portrayals of nature that are dependent on materials, perspectives, and techniques that came into prominence only with the dawning of the 20th century modernity.

The works on exhibit often represent the fluxional growth and vitality of nature as an image, as something photographed or screen-grabbed, rather than something directly perceived. This being the case, a mood of tranquility is as pervasive as an attitude of irony. Taking what is specific to a natural setting—a landscape, a body of water—and showing how it impacts the flow or urban life, The New Flux makes a case that our dependency on nature is just as pervasive as our dependency on technology.

The New Flux begins October 20, 2017 and runs through November 9, 2017 with an opening reception on October 26 from 6-8 pm. Entrance is free.
