Agora Gallery is pleased to announce Discovery: Contemporary Art Perspectives from England, an exhibition featuring seven British artists, all of whom are influenced by different traditions. This selection of artists includes Gordon Hunt, Ashley Hanson, Melanie Young, Una D'Aragona, Laura Menzies. Kate Walters, and Frances Hatch.

Discovery: Contemporary Art Perspectives from England is an ambitious digital exhibition that showcases a host of artistic styles. Ranging from figuration to abstraction, the exhibition gathers together works influenced by different historical periods, in an effort to demonstrate the sheer multiplicity of artistic values, ideals, and techniques operating in England today.

In part, the exhibition work to reshape personal memories, representing entities and events accessible only to the inwardly turned eye. Between the extremes of hyperreal materiality and memory shading off into dream, there are also more design-inspired works, which take their inspiration from urbanism. While decidedly within the genre of fine art, these works nevertheless allude to landscapes parsed out by urban planning.

Discovery takes its cue from the purely formalist concerns of paint and pigment. Realizing a Minimalist-inspired kind of abstract painting, the exhibition also delves into more figurative modes, ever aware of the gestural expressiveness that paint as a medium possesses.

Discovery: Contemporary Art Perspectives from England will open on Saturday, November 10th with a reception on Thursday, November 15th, 2018 from 6 to 8 pm. The exhibition will remain on view until Saturday, December 1st, 2018. All are welcome to attend. Entrance to the gallery is free.
