Diaghilev Ballet Costume at Harrogate Antiques Fair UK
An extremely rare and important ballet costume that featured in Sergei Diaghilev’s production of
Scheherazade performed by the world-famous Ballet Russes in Paris in 1910 will be a major
attraction when it goes on sale at The Pavilions of Harrogate Decorative, Antiques & Art Fair at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, 26th – 28th January 2018.
Designed by Leon Baskt (1866-1924), the costume is in good condition and belongs to exhibitor Ruth Cope, who exhibits as Granta Fine Art from Cambridge. The costume has been in her personal collection for many years and was verified by Sotheby’s in 1999. Now it is on sale for £18,500. Says Ruth: ‘This is an important piece of Russian and French ballet history from Diaghilev and is sure to appeal to collectors around the world’.
Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1979) is one of the most famous names in the history of ballet. He was a well-known Russian art critic, patron, ballet impresario and founder of the Ballets Russes.
