CinéSalon French Politics on Film: The Candidate

http://fiaf.org/events/spring2017/2017-05-02-cs-candidate.shtml

Sequestered in his opulent country estate with a team of party strategists and his increasingly unhappy wife, flagging presidential candidate Michel Dedieu prepares for a final debate with the sitting president. But when he realizes his party is setting him up for a fall, Dedieu decides to be true to himself and speak his mind—at the risk of his life.

Written and directed by sterling character actor Niels Arestrup (A Prophet), who also appears as the shadowy party boss Georges, this intellectual thriller takes a long hard look at the culture of manipulation and mendacity in contemporary politics.
