The stolen Van Gogh painting "Vase and Flowers"

A Vincent Van Gogh painting valued at $50 million was stolen over the weekend from a Cairo museum. Early reports stated the painting was recovered hours after it went missing. Egypt's culture minister Farouk Hosni later said the information was inaccurate and "Poppy Flowers," also called "Vase With Flowers," is still missing.

The state news agency Mena reported that an Italian couple aroused suspicion after quickly exiting the Mahmoud Khalil Museum.

The vibrant 1887 still life, measuring 1ft by 1ft, depicts yellow and red flowers in the style of the French artist Adolphe Monticelli.

The canvas had been stolen before and recovered at an undisclosed location in Kuwait in 1978.
