$5.6 million Hirst, other sales warm up Frieze

London's Frieze Art Fair started off on a high note with a number of swift sales. The VIP preview opening on Oct. 13, featuring $375 million worth of art by contemporary artists, attracted high-profile collectors from hedge-fund manager Steven Cohen to Greece's Dakis Joannou, among others, reports artinfo.
One early purchase was Damien Hirst's 2006 work, “The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truths,” with 400 fish specimens in three formaldehyde-filled vitrines, priced at 3.5 million-pound ($5.6 million) in the booth of London-based White Cube. It sold to an Asian collector within the first hour of the preview, according to Bloomberg.
The fair continues in Regent's Park through Oct. 17.
