Douglas Druick, the president of the Art Instiute of Chicago since 2011, announced that he will step down from the top position when his replacement is found. His decision was told to the museum's board on Tuesday evening.
Druick, 70, has been with the museum since 1985. He was at the helm when the Art Insitute was named the top museum in the world by Trip Advisor. He also oversaw major exhibitions and the acquistion of 42 contemporary works from the collection of Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson, the museum's largest gift ever.
"I have been deeply proud to lead one of the finest museums in the world,” stated Druick, “and to work for three decades with an exceptional cadre of remarkably talented museum colleagues. It is my hope that together we have ensured a solid footing for the Art Institute ... with a future filled with more opportunities than challenges.”
