An autographed manuscript penned by President Lincoln just six weeks before his assassination sold for $2.2 million on Wednesday in New York City.
Heritage Auctions says a bidder who wishes to remain anonymous bought the final passage of Lincoln's famed second inaugural address, paying more than twice its pre-sale estimate.
"With malice toward none; with charity for all," was written in this famous passage of Lincoln's March 1865 speech. He wrote out his speech's final lines and signed it for the 10-year-old son of John Palmer Usher, a cabinet member, and the document descended in the Usher family.
