The Art Newspaper breaks down six of the biggest art trends of 2015.

Hot topics:

1. Prices for top-tier works keep soaring and experts ask if a top-heavy market bloated with auction guarantees seems ripe for correction? Topping the auctions: $170.4m paid by the Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian at Christie’s for Amedeo Modigliani's Nu couché.

2. Guarantees gone wild? The largest auction houses are competing for the best artworks and they are promising ever-bigger prices to sellers, perhaps adding to price inflation. Of note, $515m was guaranteed by Sotheby’s for the Taubman estate.

3. More regulation ahead? Case in point: The dispute centered on over-pricing and the lack of transparency in art sales came into the limelight with the dispute between freeport owner Yves Bouvier and his former client, Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev.
