A simple white country house designed by artist J.M.W. Turner is set become a tourist attraction just 10 miles from London after donors raise about $3.5 million for a restoration. As of Jan. 4, the New York Times reported $225,000 was still needed.
Turner, considered Britain’s greatest landscape painter, designed 'Sandycombe Lodge' 200 years ago, as a country retreat in Twickenham for himself and his father, explains the Turner’s House Trust website. The home would open to visitors after a year-long restoration to its original appearance with a display of the Livermore Collection of Turner material and programs to attend.
