Luxury goods found ready buyers in Hong Kong early this week.
A "fancy vivid green" diamond brought $16.8 million at Christie's Hong Kong auction on Tuesday, setting a world auction record for a green diamond and world record price per carat for a green diamond, according to the auction house.
The rectangular-cut "Aurora Green" is 5.03 carats and fetched the low end of its $16 million to $20 million estimate.
On Monday, a Christie's sale in Hong Kong saw a another record set, this time for a handbag. Made of matte white crocodile skin, a sought-after Birkin went for $300,000, making it possibly the most expensive purse in the world.
The rare Hermés bag was embellished with hardware in 8-karat white gold and diamonds. Only one or two such Himalayan Birkins are made each year by the luxury brand, say experts.
Dyed a mottled white-gray, the Nile crocodile hide bag was estimated at $194,000 and $259,000.
