A trove of historical documents belonging to a descendant of early British settlers in Long Island will emerge for the first time on the auction market next month, reports the New York Times.
The star lot of the consignment is a copy of the Declaration of Independence--a rare and newly discovered Holt Broadside, now one of five known copies remaining of the original 500 printed by John Holt in Manhattan on July 9, 1776.
Blanchard's Auction Service, Potsdam, NY, will offer the copy with an estimate of $500,000 to $1 million at a Nov. 11 sale.
