Disneyland collectibles that a man had amassed since 1993 sold for $8.3 million at a Sherman Oaks, Calif., auction last weekend.
The consignor, Hollywood agent Richard Kraft, offered up his 900-piece Disney collection, in part to help fund charities that benefit children with special needs, including his own daugther.
The "That's From Disneyland!" sale was hosted by Van Eaton Galleries and set multiple records for Disneyland memorabilia.
Top lots included $621,000 for an original Skyway gondola that once soared above the park; a Dumbo ride went for more than four times its pre-sale estimate to $483,000; and an Autopia attraction poster fetched $287,500 (it was estimated to bring $4,000). Jose, an animatronic bird from the Tiki Room, sold for $425,000.
“I never knew Dumbo was going to provide anything more than just being a beautiful thing that brought me happiness in my home for all these years,” Kraft said. “It turns out Dumbo took care us.”
A public exhibit of the collection drew crowds for a month prior to the sale.
