Edvard Munch, Winter, 1895.

An innovative digital take on the traditional advent calendar, The Arts Society’s Artvent Calendar offers 31 days of digital art experiences and events to delight and surprise throughout the month of December.

Behind each door of the digital calendar art lovers will discover a range of daily art treats and virtual gifts including short films, art lectures, inspiring readings and virtual tours that celebrate art and the festive season in all its forms. In celebration of the season of light, thought-provoking and culturally diverse topics will be explored through painting, sculpture, literature, music, poetry and dance.

Giotto, The Adoration of the Magi., c. 1320.

Some of the artistic treats behind each door of The Arts Society’s 2021 Artvent Calendar include golden artefacts, star signs, pantomime, angels, winter landscapes, holidays and festivals, as well as the scents, plants and songs of the season. Many of the short lectures will be presented by The Arts Society’s expert Accredited Lecturers.

The Artvent Calendar is a free gift from The Arts Society, the UK’s leading arts education charity, to the general public as well as its members, their friends and family. Anyone wanting to get their hands on the 31 virtual gifts included in The Arts Society‘s digital Artvent Calendar, can sign up for free by visiting theartssociety.org/artvent. Once you sign up to the Artvent Calendar, a new digital experience will be delivered straight to your inbox each morning throughout the month of December.

The Arts Society’s Artvent Calendar builds on the success of the charity’s digital platform The Arts Society Connected launched in April 2020, which helped art lovers across the UK to stay connected through the long months of lockdown with a brilliant offering of online talks given by specialist art historians.

At the heart of the Artvent Calendar is a celebration of the season of light and an exploration of how cultures from across the globe celebrate the month of December through light and art.

Sign up at theartssociety.org/artvent and get set to receive a little art surprise in your inbox from December 1 onwards. All donations from the Artvent Calendar will go towards The Arts Society’s Patricia Fay Fund, which awards grants to help preserve the UK's artistic heritage, support the skills of artists and makers, and improve access to the arts for all.
