Matthew's Galleries is pleased to have acquired the estate collection of Oregon artist John Waddingham's work, spanning more than 65 years. More than 200 works will be on exhibit for sale, with an opening reception Tuesday, May 14, 2013, 4-8pm. The exhibit will run through June 4, 2013. Oils, watercolors, monotypes and fine prints will be included, many created in the Portland metropolitan area, but also from his travels around the world.
John Waddingham was internationally known, but is remembered as the Art Director for The Oregonian for twenty years (and Art Director at the Oregon Journal thirteen years before that), and an artist of popular local appeal. His accolades are extensive: the winner of numerous awards, works represented in numerous galleries and museums throughout the country, exhibitions and one person shows in America and Europe, a member of the American Watercolor Society and other important art organizations, an illustrator, art teacher and show judge. Waddingham was a featured artist in American Artist magazine on three occasions between 1956 and 1998.
The diversity of Waddingham's work will surprise many, including those collectors already familiar with his oeuvre. While he was a accomplished representational artist, with an expressionist slant, Waddingham was also a modernist of note and expert print maker. We look forward to your visit to this important exhibition.
