Los Angeles, CA (Aug 24, 2022) - Thinkspace Projects continues to demonstrate the endless possibilities of a beautiful physical space for New Contemporary Art with their September lineup of shows, which once again takes advantage of their recent expansion and further solidifies their standing as a community hub in West Adams.
In Gallery I, Thinkspace Projects is pleased to present Habitat, a group show featuring the work of Kevin Peterson, Kisung Koh, Jacub Gagnon, and Anthony Solano. The gallery is thrilled to bring together four of their surreal naturalist painters for one impactful exhibition. Each contributor has delivered new work for the show, pushing the boundaries of their previous creations, ultimately creating some of their strongest pieces to date. These artists and their works display an apparent harmony, complimenting each other with elements of the natural world and surrealist attitudes.
Erik Mark Sandberg’s latest solo show Golden Pacific fills Gallery II. Following a run of successful group exhibitions together, the gallery is thrilled to host their debut solo exhibition with the local LA artist. Consisting of six paintings, four etchings, and two monoprints, Golden Pacific offers an idealized sunset-bathed surreality. The uncanny nature of the paintings allows for ambiguity within the pictorial codes loosely themed around daily recreational activities, love in the modern age, or the ersatz reality of the digital realm.
Galleries III and IV bring the exciting and comprehensive group show Amplify to the Thinkspace community. Bringing together new work from 34 artists from the Thinkspace Family including two or more pieces from each, the show is a window into the New Contemporary art movement at this very moment, marking our place in the evolution of this realm of art. Featuring work from Yusuff Aina Abogunde, Antonio J. Ainscough, Langston Allston, Stephanie Buer, Victoria Cassanova, Young-Ji Cha, Paul Flores, Priscilla S. Flores, Sergio Garcia, Armani Howard, Anjastama Hp, Blake Jones, Ozzie Juarez, Tosin Kalejaye, Jolene Laim, Ryo Laksamana (aka Ryol), Torto Lawrence, Loser Angeles, Dan Lydersen, Marie-Claude Marquis, B. Robert Moore, Dustin Myers, Ayanfe Olarinde, Michael Polakowski, Jack Shure, David Speed, Stom500, Austyn Taylor, Roos van der Vliet, Wiley Wallace, Eshinlokun Wasiu, Caroline Weaver, Casey Weldon, and Brad Woodfin, the show is sure to be varied and engaging.
With refreshments, DJs, a taco and cheesesteak stand, light projections from Society of Shadows, and live painting, this opening reception is not to be missed. Thinkpace is taking full advantage of their epic expansion, which now spans 8,500 square feet of exhibition spaces and 15,000 square feet of fully landscaped courtyard that connects their two spaces.
These shows open September 3rd with a reception from 6PM to 10PM. They will remain on view until September 24th at Thinkspace Projects.
About Thinkspace
Thinkspace was founded in 2005; now in LA’s thriving West Adams District, the gallery has garnered an international reputation as one of the most active and productive exponents of the New Contemporary Art Movement. Maintaining its founding commitment to the promotion and support of its artists, Thinkspace has steadily expanded its roster and diversified its projects, creating collaborative and institutional opportunities all over the world. Founded in the spirit of forging recognition for young, emerging, and lesser-known talents, the gallery is now home to artists from all over the world, ranging from the emerging, mid-career, and established.
Though the New Contemporary Art Movement has remained largely unacknowledged by the vetted institutions of the fine art world and its arbiters of ‘high culture,’ the future promises a shift. The Movement’s formative aversion to the establishment is also waning in the wake of its increased visibility, institutional presence, and widespread popularity. Thinkspace has sought to champion and promote the unique breadth of the Movement, creating new opportunities for the presentation of its artists and work. An active advocate for what is now one of the longest extant organized art movements in history, Thinkspace is an established voice for its continued growth and evolution, proving their commitment by expanding its projects beyond Los Angeles, exhibiting with partner galleries and organizations in Berlin, Hong Kong, London, New York City, Detroit, Chicago, and Honolulu among many others, participating in International Art Fairs, and curating New Contemporary content for Museums. Committed to the vision, risk, and exceptional gifts of its artists, the gallery is first and foremost a family. From the streets to the museums, and from the “margins” to the white cube, Thinkspace is re-envisioning what it means to be “institutional.”
