Christmas presents from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to their Private Secretary, Mr Victor Waddilove, are among a small archive of memorabilia to be sold at Bonhams in London at the Gentleman's Library Sale on 19 January.
Mr Waddilove served his Royal Highness and the Duchess for ten years, between 1947 and 1957, at their home in the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. He also accompanied them on their many travels. For Christmas 1949 he received a 14 carat gold penknife in a plain gold case engraved with the crowned, entwined EW cipher. The Christmas gift in 1957 was a silver beaker inscribed, "Merry Christmas 1957", and engraved with the ciphers of the Duke and Duchess.
Other memorabilia include a 14 carat gold mechanical pencil engraved with the cipher of the Duchess of Windsor, a humidor presented to the Duke in Nassau, six crested note cards signed by the Duke and Duchess and six glass goblets engraved with the cipher of Edward, Prince of Wales.
The archive is expected to sell for between £2,000 and £2,500.
