WINDSOR, Conn. – A remarkable wardrobe collection assembled by a prominent New York socialite, with an estimated retail value of around $2 million, will come up for bid on Saturday, May 14th, at Nadeau’s Auction Gallery, in the firm’s gallery at 25 Meadow Road in Windsor. Numerous examples of couture evening and day wear from prominent designers will be sold.

The designers will include Chanel, Christian Dior, Arnold Scaasi, Mary McFadden, Givenchy, Gianni Versace, Adolfo, Ungaro, Balmain, Bill Blass, Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, St. John, Escada, Moschino, Pierre Cardin, Maximillian, Valentino, Akris, Ballantyne, Dolce & Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Gorgio Armani, Rene Lange, Carolina Herrera and Nina Ricci.

Also included will be purses, handbags, shoes, and accessories by designers including Chanel, Tiffany & Co., Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Judith Leiber, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Rene Mancini, Ferragamo, Stuart Weitzman, Gucci, Eric Javits, Fendi, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Prada, and Dooney & Bourke. Internet bidding will be facilitated by Invaluable.com and BidSquare.com.

“Many of these clothing pieces and other items have only been worn once, and many were never worn at all and still have the original tag,” said Ed Nadeau of Nadeau’s Auction Gallery. “This promises to be an exceptional auction, with a depth of couture and high-end, ready-to-wear that is seldom seen. It’s also an exciting glimpse into the closet of an elite, fashion-minded socialite.”

The identity of the socialite has not been revealed, at the request of her estate. However, the names of the designers whose labels this dedicated fashionista bought and wore are no secret. ”These are just a few of the gorgeous offerings that will be sold May 14th,” Mr. Nadeau said.

Previews are scheduled for Thursday, May 5th, from 4-6:30 pm; Friday, May 6th, from 3-5 pm; Thursday, May 12th,  from 12 noon to 6:30 pm; Friday, May 13th, from 12 noon to 5 pm; and Saturday, May 14th, the date of auction, from 8:30 am until the first gavel falls at 10 am Eastern time; or by appointment. “I suggest coming to the earlier preview dates,” Mr. Nadeau suggested. “The later dates are expected to be extremely busy. Also, limited fitting rooms will be available.”
