Paintings, sculptures, frames and fine art often need the skillful touch and care of a restoration expert. This year Trefler’s, Boston’s best and only comprehensive resource for all restoration needs, is proud to be a Sponsor of the New Collectors Salon at the 2014 Boston International Fine Art Show (BIFAS), November 13-16 in Boston. Trefler’s participation in BIFAS helps educate people on the importance of preserving and restoring the artwork that is valuable to them. Trefler’s is located at 29 Tower Road in Newton Upper Falls, MA.  Hours are Monday through Friday 9:00AM to 6:00PM, and Saturdays from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. For additional information, visit www.Trefler.com or call 617-965-3388.

As the premier event of the New Collectors Salon, Trefler’s will present an on-site panel discussion, entitled Caring for Your Collection at 6:00PM on Friday, November 14. This discussion will emphasize the importance of learning how to preserve the value and integrity of your collection after the purchase is complete. Panelists will share information on correctly lighting your collection, insurance considerations, and the restoration process. Trefler’s own Janet Moran will be joined by Doreen Le May Madden of Lux Lighting Design, Inc and Gregory J. Smith of Berkley Asset Protection. Moran, who has been a part of Trefler’s team for almost 30 years, is the head painting conservator and a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA). The panel will be held in the show’s Lecture Hall and moderated by Tony Fusco, co-producer of BIFAS and author of five books on collecting.

Along with Trefler’s panel discussion, there will be dealer booth talks, opportunities to meet the talented artists, and complementary beer, wine, and refreshments.  At 5:30PM Jerry Squi of Century Guild Chicago will present a booth talk entitled The Artists of the Vienna Seccessionists Movement. Throughout the evening artists Marlene Rose represented by Newbury Fine Arts, David Brega from Boston, M.M. Ciciovan from Quebec, and Onne van der Wal from Newport will also be on hand. Founded in 1921, Trefler’s expertly mixes century-old techniques with modern restoration technology to execute some of the best repairs of paintings and frames in the world. Whether it is an oil painting that needs cleaning, is torn or scratch, its paint is flaking, or the frame needs superior care, Trefler’s is able to transform each piece back to its original condition without any risk of damage. Trefler’s’ restoration experts apply their skills not only to fine art, but also to any item that a customer might be interested in repairing for sentimental reasons. No project is too big or too small.  “We are ready to take on any level of restoration and repair,” comments David Manzi, President of Trefler’s.  “The public is invited to take a tour of our workshops, and see what we can do to preserve your family’s heritage.  We will even repair your favorite coffee mug!”

Caring for a collection and preserving family heritage is a continuous focus for the Gibson House Museum, a historic house museum in Boston’s Back Bay that has encapsulated the essence of the Gibson family and their domestic life from the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. In late 2012 Trefler’s worked to restore the Gibson family’s treasured painting: Cleopatra, Dissolving the Pearl by Italian Baroque artist, Guido Reni. The story passed down through the Gibson family is that they moved the painting to save it from the Great Boston Fire of 1872. While on a horse carriage meant to transport the painting to safety, it fell out near the State House and sustained damage that remained until being restored by Trefler’s. Moran was able to perform an outstanding restoration and cleaning, and it now hangs in the music room in the Gibson House Museum.
