Ann Korologos Gallery presents Dinah Worman: Near & Far, a solo exhibition featuring the bold and imaginative oil paintings of Dinah Worman. The exhibition is on view August 12 to August 18, 2021 at Ann Korologos Gallery in Basalt, Colorado, and virtually at korologosgallery.com.
“Dinah Worman's new works showcase her masterful use of a palette knife to capture the light of the landscape, accented with her whimsical black and white cows that draw the viewer through the composition,” reflects Sue Edmonds, gallery director.
Dinah Worman was born in Midland, Texas, and now lives in Taos, New Mexico where she creates works that explore the human relationship to the landscape, taken from a creative viewpoint of extreme angles, often with a bird’s eye perspective. Instantly recognizable for their clarity, depth, and quality of light, Worman’s paintings reveal the interaction of man and nature in the contemporary “Wild West” of New Mexico and neighboring Colorado. Dinah sees the landscape as one might see an arranged still life, objects in relation to each other, but on a grand scale. This perspective of the landscape and dedication to self is what is to love about Worman’s work.
In the midst of the light and arranged landscapes, small white-faced black cows often punctuate the painting, drawing viewers through the composition. Worman paints the cows early in her process before building layers of paint around them, creating the appearance that the whimsical figures are carved out of the landscape. Her small-canvas, minimalist compositions are a favorite of collectors, and serve as studies for larger works. “My interpretation is more important than the object itself. You realize that your wisdom is coming from some subconscious place rather than from copying something else. I want to do work that, though rooted in reality, is more and more conceptual. Painting and drawing have given me a lot of comfort, challenge, direction, goals—about everything I’ve needed to keep myself moving forward. I’m at my best when there is no real break from painting and it is part of my daily life.”
Dinah has been a featured artist at the Coors Western Art Exhibit and Sale from 2011 to 2017, selected as Featured Artist in 2017 and receiving the Best in Show award in 2013. She earned the designation of Master Pastelist from the Pastel Society of America. Her work has been featured in nationally renowned publications including Southwest Art Magazine, and Western Art & Architecture, and in books including “Art Journey America, Landscapes and Art Journey: New Mexico.” Awards include Southwest Art Magazine Award of Excellence, American Art Invitational, Denver, (2014); Master Pastelist, National Arts Club Award (2002), Joseph V. Giffuni Memorial Award (1998), Hahnemuhle Paper Award (1995), Dick Blick Award (1993, and more. Her work is featured in the permanent collection at Harwood Museum of Art, Taos, NM.
