Buoyed by confidence stemming from recent strong sales at New York's contemporary art auctions, dealers clamored to exhibit in the current edition of Art Basel Miami Beach. Booth applications rose by 20% over last year.

There will be blue-chip 20th-century art offerings, but dealers are also feeling safer about bringing back experimental art. More Latin American art will cater to the growing number of wealthy South American buyers, and increasingly, Chinese collectors are expected on the scene, according to the Financial Times.

Opening to the public Dec. 2, this year's four-day event is expected to draw more than 40,000 people. The main sector, which has more than 180 galleries among the 260 total stands, will feature works by hot list artists such as Jenny Holzer and Chinese artist Ai Weiwei.

A bevy of satellite art fairs, events and parties round out Miami Arts Week, Dec. 1 to 5, including: Red Dot Fair, Art Miami, and Scope.
