- October 04, 2015 18:24
Olga Hirshhorn, wife of the late founder of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and known as a significant art collector and patron in her own right, passed away at her home in Naples, Florida on Oct. 3. She was 95.
The fourth wife of financier and mining tycoon Joseph Hirshhorn, Olga Hirschhorn was for many years a gregarious hostess and philanthropist in Washington, where much of her husband's famed 6,000-piece art collection now resides on public view. The pair befriended many of the 20th century's most famous artists--from Picasso and Calder to de Kooning and O'Keeffe.
She served on the board of the Hirshhorn, Corcoran School of Art, and supported other museum projects. Hirshhorn was also a long-time resident of Greenwich, Conn., and Martha's Vineyard, Mass.
