San Francisco Fine Arts Museums whistle-blower Michele Gutierrez is out of a job — and it happened soon after the San Francisco Chronicle revealed that she had gone to the city and the state attorney general with allegations of financial misconduct involving powerful museums board chair and chief executive Dede Wilsey, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Gutierrez was the museum's chief financial officer, before being demoted and then fired. The Chronicle previously reported that she filed a complaint after Wilsey authorized a payment of $450,000 to Bill Huggins, a city worker at the de Young museum who retired following a heart attack in 2014. Huggins' wife, Therese Chen, is the director of registration for the de Young, which is part of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.

The Chronicle reported that at least one board member told Gutierrez he did not know about the payment which Wilsey passed along as having board approval.

In repsonse to the first report in mid-October, the Museums issued a statement that an independent investigator reviewed the case and "found no wrongdoing by the Museums, its employees, or its Trustees." Shortly thereafter, Gutierrez was fired, according to the Chronicle.
