Historic New England just published a limited-edition reprint of Early New England Interiors published in 1878 by architect Arthur Little.

This hard-to-find resource for architecture and preservation enthusiasts reproduces Little’s sketches of some of the region's finest colonial interiors and details from houses in Salem and Marblehead, Massachusetts; Kittery, Maine; and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, including Historic New England’s Governor John Langdon House.

The sketches were done early in Little’s career when he worked as a draftsman for Peabody and Sterns in 1877. In 1878, he went into independent practice and then in 1890 formed a partnership with Herbert W. C. Browne that lasted until the 1920s and focused on domestic architecture for clients in Boston, Brookline, the North Shore of Massachusetts, and Washington, D.C.
