Susan Shaw, owner of Shaw’s Antiques in Nevada City, Calif., has closed the 81-year-old business and chosen Sacramento-based Witherell’s to auction the contents on Friday June 12, 2015 at the Gold Miner’s Inn, Grass Valley.
More than 500 lots will be auctioned by projection at the Holiday Inn Express and online through Bidsquare.com.
The auction starts at 10 a.m. and runs until all items are sold.
“Although it’s been a wonderful ride, I’d like to retire and pass these beautiful things on to other homes,” said Susan Shaw, whose mother, Maudie Shaw, started the business in 1934.
Shaw has been working at the store since she was a teenager and running the business since 1970.
Shaw’s has two stories of exquisite items, including nearly 50 chandeliers, silver to be sold in lots, a pair of gold-leaf doors, a vintage baby carriage and more.
Everything, including the 9 ft. tall mahogany display cases that came from Edinburgh, Scotland, will be sold.
From its founding, Shaw’s Antiques was a must-see store for connoisseurs who wanted elegant, distinguished merchandise.
“Shaw’s has been a destination shop for San Francisco bay area collectors since the 1930’s,” said Brian Witherell, chief operating officer of the eponymously named business. “We are honored to be working with Susan.”
Shaw’s will be open for previews Saturday June 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday June 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Shaw’s Antiques is located at 210 Main Street, Nevada City, Calif.
Witherell’s is publishing an online catalogue for the global auction.
