Important Estates Featured at Clarke on June 12th

Clarke Auction will feature items from several collector and decorator estates in their upcoming Sunday, June 12th sale. The auction will feature a quality offering of fine and decorative art, modern and contemporary design, sterling silver and jewelry, and others.
One of the featured estates in the sale is the Aspen retreat of a well-known celebrity. The estate selection features a number of quality decoration and design including many pieces of custom and collection furniture from Ralph Lauren. There will a set of eight Ralph Lauren Weathersby arm chairs ($1,000/$1,500) and another two pairs of custom hand-stitched Ralph Lauren leather club chairs ($1,500-$2,500 each). Other exceptional items from the estate include a number of designer antler form furniture pieces, and some highly carved antique cabinets with fowl and deer motifs. The informed interior items also include designs by Linda Horn, Paladin, and Vladimir Kagan.
From another important Manhattan, NY estate, which had the magnificent and well selling porcelain urns in Clarke’s previous sale, an exquisite Chinese screen will be featured. The Embroidered screen is of high artisan quality and has a modest estimate indicative of quality at $10,000/$15,000.
The fine art selection has featured lots from a number of estates and will include a number of originals and prints of note. In the print selection, an Andy Warhol offset lithograph, entitled “Shoe” is the featured item. The work is from the estate of Cipe Pineles, who was an influential 20th century New York female graphic designer and art director. The print will be offered at $8,000/$12,000.
For original works, there are several important works available for sale on the 12th. Perhaps the most intriguing of the selection is a Louis Abel-Truchet pastel on canvas. The work of Place de la Republique, Paris in the snow will be presented at $6,000/$9,000. A Robert Kipniss oil on canvas, entitled, “Night Reflections” is also featured at $4,000/$6,000, alongside an Avigdor Stematsky abstract composition estimated $3,000/$5,000. Sets of original works are also popular in the sale and will include lots like the set of four Robert Mears watercolors, two of which are battle scenes, and a set of 8 Robert Colescott storyboards for “Pitstop.” Each set will have a $3,000/$5,000 estimate attached.
The midcentury modern and contemporary design selection will also be a large portion of Sunday’s sale and will lead with designer furniture and finish with a large number of lighting lots. The lighting lots include contemporary Italian modern fixtures and chandeliers by companies like Luceplan and Vesoi. Other vintage lighting lots include examples by Marbro, Arredoluce, Champman, Sonneman, Nessen, and more.
The design selection’s featured lighting lot is the exception black, white, and gray shaded Triennale floor lamp ($3,000/$5,000). There will also be a number of midcentury designer furnishings including three Poul Kjarholm for E. Kold Christensen PK91 folding stools ($4,000/$6,000 and $2,000/$3,000 for pair and single respectively), a Vladimir Kagan cloud sofa in soft leather upholstery ($1,000/$1,500), a Pace lacquered and burl floating wall unit ($800/$1,200) and a matching Pace pau ferro lacquered dining table ($1,000/$1,500).
The exceptional Deco furniture is also in top notice for the June 12th sale and will include a pair of Andree Putman crescent moon sofas. The sofas are in subtle and elegant Ralph Pucci upholstery and will be offered as a pair for $4,000/$6,000. There will also be a range of other sofas including Harvey Probber, Danish, American and more. The seating selection for modern designers is completed by a set of five mid-1950s Eames for Zenith and Herman Miller DAX chairs. The chairs have the rope edging for the purists, and will be sold at an estimate of $300-$500 for the five.
Sterling silver and jewelry selections will be near the high mark for the year with many desirable offerings. The sterling selection includes a remarkable 20th Century English silver “Liberty Chess Set.” The set was designed by James Goodbrand and is representative of figures from the American Revolution. The pieces are sterling silver and are of the likeness of men and women who played integral roles in that historic era. The estimate matches the historical and aesthetic importance at $5,000/$7,000. There will also be a number of sterling silver jewelry and accessories lots, as well as flatware and service items including a Whiting tea service and tray ($2,000/$2,500).
The jewelry lots will again take a spotlight with such interesting offerings as a platinum and diamond engagement ring. The ring features dual pear shaped diamond with the weight of 4.5 cttw. The ring is esimtated $7,000/$9,000. A 14 carat emerald and diamond ring is the rival lot in the ring offerings and will be presented at $6,000/$8,000.
Decorative arts and collectible items will also be a big part of the auction’s success. The variety of lots include a Harley Davidson 1994 5 Speed sportster ($2,000/$3,000), a number of historical autographs and documents, including Lincoln, a Dore bronze mantle clock ($1,500/$2,500), a KPM plaque ($1,000/$1,500), a pair of Jade Brush washers ($1,000/$1,500), carpets, antique furniture, sculpture, and more!
In-house previews will be held on Friday & Saturday, June 10th & 11th from 12pm to 6pm. The previews will continue on the day of the sale, Sunday, June 12th from 10am to the sale start time at 12pm.
