Morton Subastas has a full schedule of auctions this month, with not many days to spare. The Latin American Art and 20th Century Design sales lead the lineup, featuring renowned names in both art and design. Online bidding for all Morton Subastas auctions is exclusively on Bidsquare.
Morton Subastas presents a sale of Latin American Art on May 16, where many works in the auction respond to historical, social and even conceptual events.
Leading the auction with the sale's highest estimate of MXN$18,000,000-21,000,000 is a French landscape by Diego Rivera that dates from 1917. The work was presented at the exhibition Picasso & Rivera. Conversations through time, made in commemoration of the 130th anniversary of the birth of the muralist. It coincided with the centenary of the creation of this splendid oil in which Rivera refined his technique and the exploration of the European avant-gardes.
South America is represented with the great Uruguayan master Joaquín Torres-García, with an artwork from 1927, a period in which he was also traveling and discovering the artistic manifestations of the world.
A fascinating urban landscape titled Octava Avenida comes from José Clemente Orozco, a great muralist of Mexico. This work was presented in the retrospective exhibition of its author: José Clemente Orozco: painting and truth, in the Cabañas Cultural Institute and in the Old School of San Ildefonso.
In addition to 20th Century Design and Latin American Art, upcoming auctions from Morton Subastas also include Fine Jewelry and Timepieces, Photography, Graphic Work of European and Latin American Masters and more.
