OPEN HOUSE AT RAGO ON JANUARY 6TH FEATURES A PANEL PRESENTATION BY 5 UNDER 30.
Lambertville, NJ: Cataloguers are a talented, knowledgeable and indispensable part of the staff at Rago (and all auction houses). They work hand-in-glove with specialists on object identification and description, provenance research, catalog essays and client relations. Often, they are at the start of their careers. Always, they have a passion for the arts and material culture. On Tuesday, January 6, five of Rago’s cataloguers – all under 30 – will introduce you to property from the Rago Unreserved auction that has caught their attention and explain why:
- Elsa Vreeland, Furnishings and Decorative Arts department, on the influence of the Brothers Adam or the "Adamesque" on serviceable furniture of the late Georgian Era as typified in lot 335, a George III sideboard.
- Sarah Ann Wilson, Fine Art department, on Andy Warhol's Silver Clouds, one of which will be featured in Sunday's auction as lot 1034.
- Sarah Dziamba, 20th c. department, on the work of Lucy Perkins and the Brush Guild Pottery, whose Etruscan-style vase is lot 7 in the auction.
- Kim Sorensen, 20th c. department, on Andre Cazenave's moon lamps (697a, 698) in the context of the lunar landing and Space Age design.
- Lelia Williamson, Unreserved department, on remix and appropriation as exemplified by lot 1134, Phillippe Starck's "Louis Ghost" armchairs.
Their presentation takes place during the preview for the Rago Unreserved auction on January 10 and 11. The auction house opens on Tuesday, January 6 at noon. A wine and cheese reception begins at 5 pm. The presentation begins at 6 p.m.
