When the translucent lights and colorful shapes were filtered through patterns of dreamlike inner visions, Urs Gyger is creating his dazzling surreal-poetic paintings.
Priska Medam, director and curator of the Galerie zum Harnisch, is delighted to present the first Solo Exhibition by Urs Gyger at Basel Art Center in Switzerland. Urs Gyger who was born in Affoltern am Albis in the canton of Zurich, calls himself an inspired painter, as he gets his inspiration from the world of unconscious and dream phenomena.
His paintings are characterized by their distinctive combination of figurative imagery and surrealist story telling, an eccentric iconography of human characters, animals, and hybrids within familiar-looking but imaginary settings. Reflecting his rich cultural heritage, Urs Gyger is involved in West and East philosophy and aesthetics.
Since many years, Basel is recognized as an avant-garde platform for contemporary art in Europe – the perfect setting to present Urs Gyger’s neo surreal paintings to the public. From May 31 to June 4, Galerie zum Harnisch celebrates the curated solo show in presence of the artist, which opens on Wednesday, May 31, at 5.00 pm at Basel Art Center. Welcome to the world of visions!
