To fulfill a consistent interest from national and international show attendees to further their antique jewelry education, U.S. Antique Shows premieres The Original Miami Beach Antique Jewelry Series. Beginning two days prior to the opening of The Original Miami Beach Antique Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the jewelry conference, Jan. 28-29, 2014, will showcase notable jewelry experts with extensive knowledge on selected areas of jewelry history.
“U.S. Antique Shows is uniquely positioned to provide ongoing education to jewelry collectors, buyers and enthusiasts in conjunction with attending one of the world’s best known antique events. Many of our attendees come to the show annually, but by simply making arrangements to come a bit earlier, they’re able to fit two great events into one trip,” said Dan Darby, GLM vice president and U.S. Antique Shows group director.
U.S. Antique Shows has partnered with Elyse Zorn Karlin, co-director of the Association for the Study of Jewelry and Related Arts (ASJRA), and Gail Brett Levine, executive director of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) to plan and execute this new educational event.
“Gail and I are very pleased to have been asked to co-direct the first ever jewelry series as an adjunct to The Original Miami Beach Antique Show. The show is known as the "crème de la crème" of shows for those who want to see a great quantity of high end antique and period jewelry in one place. We hope to be a part of this series for many years to come,” said Karlin.
Here’s a list of speakers scheduled for the jewelry series:
January 28
Kimberly Klosterman, Breaking the Mold Artist Jewelers of the 1960s and 70s
Harrice Simons Miller, The Inside Story: Fashion Jewelry – The Collection of Barbara Berger
Emily Banis Stoehrer, Louis Feron: Life and Legacy
Patricia Faber, Out of Nowhere: Mid-Century Modernist Jewelry
January 29
Elyse Zorn Karlin and Gail Brett Levine, Split Personality: Two Different Views of Jewelry
Along with a variety of sessions featuring authors, graduate gemologists and jewelry historians, the two-day conference will also include a complementary tour of the David Webb Exhibit at the Norton Museum of Art and the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
In addition, jewelry series attendees will be among the first to see The Original Miami Beach Antique Show before it opens with a tour of select jewelry exhibitor booths on Wednesday, Jan. 29. This tour will allow attendees a preview of the magnificent pieces available for purchase.
