Gemr (www.gemr.com), a pioneering ecommerce and social community, today announces the acquisition of GoAntiques.com, the preeminent marketplace for buying and selling antiques, art, and vintage collectibles. As part of the acquisition, Gemr will integrate the GoAntiques community of 200,000+ users and more than 350,000 items available online and via the Gemr iOS and Android mobile apps.
“Gemr is a social marketplace for all collectors, but the antiques community has always been at the forefront of our focus - antique and vintage items are woven into our company’s DNA,” said Terry Anderton, CEO of Gemr. “Acquiring GoAntiques supports Gemr’s growth strategy, which includes organic market adoption and the addition of established communities to more than 25 different club categories currently on the platform. This purchase also reinforces the company’s mission to identify and connect consumers with items enhanced in value by their story. We look forward to welcoming the GoAntiques community and developing a creative, authentic and one-of-a-kind experience for everyone.”
Members of the GoAntiques community will gain access to Gemr’s hyper-personalized and robust social collecting platform, which includes a series of features designed to create engagement among collectors. Complete integration of the site is anticipated by mid-summer 2015. GoAntiques will continue to function as a standalone site in the interim.
“GoAntiques, previously a division within WorthPoint, has been an authority in the online retail and auction marketplace for decades and we are confident that Gemr will provide a transformative experience for GoAntiques users moving forward,” said Will Seippel, founder and CEO of WorthPoint, Inc. “The sale is aligned with WorthPoint’s focus on building data research and valuation tools for users in the antiques and collectibles marketplaces like Gemr and we are excited for the new enhanced offerings that Gemr will give to the community.”
Gemr is the first social marketplace built for collectors, by collectors to share and discover the things they love. Gemr users can upload their own items and leverage the crowd to understand the item’s value and story. This distinction takes Gemr beyond eCommerce and into the world of social engagement, with an advanced human component behind the platform. Gemr strives to connect to the detailed stories behind items and share those stories with users, which is a key differentiator for Gemr, and part of the enhanced user experience.
