Haughton International Fairs is delighted to announce an exciting new initiative at Art Antiques London, Kensington Gardens, 12-18 June 2014. This year, for the first time, the fair will host an Asian Art in London ‘Pavilion.’ 21 participating dealers from Asian Art in London will exhibit a wide range of antique and contemporary Asian art together in one large pavilion at this year’s fair. This selling exhibition will showcase a range of outstanding Asian art such as Chinese works of art and textiles, Japanese art, Indian and Islamic paintings and sculpture, Southeast Asian sculpture, bronzes and much more.
Located in one of London’s most fashionable areas, the fair has become an essential destination in the heart of London for a community of collectors and curators from around the world. Set in beautiful parkland, Art Antiques London sits next to the Albert Memorial and opposite The Royal Albert Hall to take place on the historic site of the Great Exhibition of 1851.
“We are delighted to welcome Asian Art in London to Art Antiques London, comments Anna Haughton, the fair’s Co-Director. “We feel this initiative enhances the important role of Asian art at the fair, both commercially and academically. We look forward to a successful collaboration with our Asian Art in London colleagues.”
Chairman of Asian Art in London, Max Rutherston, commented that “‘The Pavilion’ at Art Antiques London presents a great opportunity to raise the profile of Asian Art in London for all our participants and to reach out to a new audience.”
The lecture programme at the fair includes a highly anticipated academic lecture on Asian art: A behind the scenes look at Ming – 50 years that changed China by Jessica Harrison-Hall, Curator of Chinese Ceramics - British Museum and Sir Percival David Collections and Vietnamese Art on Monday 16th June at 11.30 am. The lecture is a “preview” of the British Museum’s major exhibition to open in Autumn 2014 on Ming courts and their international engagement. Ming: 50 years that changed China shows how fifty years of the Ming dynasty transformed China in ways which still affect the country we know today. Art Antiques London’s superb lecture programme is a particular feature of the Fair, underpinning the Fair's academic credentials and always receives acclaim from collectors.
June is one of the most important months of the year in London and its world-class art events attract large numbers of international visitors. About Haughton International Fairs
Husband and wife team Brian and Anna Haughton, from London, have been a strong force in the art market for nearly 30 years as the organisers of four international fairs in New York and a fifth in London. They were the first to give a substantial body of top European and subsequently Far Eastern dealers the opportunity to exhibit in the United States. Throughout, the Haughtons’ aim has been to create “an international community of interest in art, antiques and design – one in which commerce and academia live harmoniously.” They boldly entered the American fairs arena in 1989 with The International Fine Art & Antique Dealers Show and a line-up of exhibitors drawn from among the world’s most prestigious art dealers, including many of the top names in New York itself and, with them, a fabulous selection of high-end art and antiques. Taking place at New York’s Park Avenue Armory (Park Avenue at 67th Street) it quickly became one of the most important fairs in the world. Prior to this the Haughtons had already initiated their idea of creating an international forum with The International Ceramics Fair & Seminar, held annually in London every June since 1982. Art Antiques London will now incorporate The Ceramics Fair and bring in new and exciting collecting areas.
