In a spirit of joy and pleasure, The Cooley Gallery announces The World in Motion, an exhibition and sale of new photographs by Peter Daitch. If there was ever a theme that fit an artist it would be this one for Peter. He's a man of many interests with travel, photography, skateboarding and snowboarding among the top. The theme of motion of light and color aptly reflect this artist's point of view.

The World in Motion, an exhibition of photographs by Peter is his first at The Cooley Gallery. Over twenty five works will be on display.  Peter earned his BFA in photography and the medium has been an important part of his art ever since. Jeff Cooley notes, "We've had one of Peter's pieces in the gallery for the last couple of weeks, just leaning on a chair. I can't tell you how many times people have been looking around the gallery, stop and point, asking "What's this?" They are intrigued. Sometimes people are put off by art they cannot readily identify and that defensiveness is understandable but Peter's images don't seem to have the effect some abstract work might. They are inviting and somehow familiar. Maybe it's the movement? Maybe it's the colors? It will be fun to find out."

The very best realism in art has a strong element of abstraction. The fact that Daitch's images are very specific objects or landscapes abstracted through motion, make them highly effective. Knowing what the image started with is interesting, but ultimately incidental. The final products, compositions reliant on design and color, are consistently engaging.

The opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 19th from 5pm to 8pm at The Cooley Gallery, 25 Lyme Street in Old Lyme. The World in Motion runs through August 23rd.
