A 1924 Model T has been added to the September 6, 2014 Pope Valley auction featuring the contents of a nineteenth century stage coach stop.
A Mills Liberty Bell slot machine was found under the counter in the saloon during cataloguing.
Stage coach stop owner and mechanic, Bradley Kilpatrick, kept the Model T running and was known for driving it around the historic Napa Valley wine country at Christmas with his late wife, Elgie.
The Model T is estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.
“We’re very excited to add these items to the contents of the stage coach stop auction,” said Brian Witherell, an “Antiques Roadshow” appraiser and chief operations officer of Witherell’s, which is handling the auction.
Opened in 1874, the Pope Valley stage coach stop had a saloon, hotel, restaurant, brewery, card room, general store and post office in its heyday.
The property and its contents had been in the hands of Elgie McNeil Kilpatrick’s family since 1912.
Many of the items in the stage coach stop had not been touched since 1971 when Kilpatrick closed the general store.
Even though it has a bullet hole in it, the American Brewing Co. Bohemian self-framed tin advertising poster could be worth more than the $1,500 to $2,500 estimate.
The Mills Liberty Bell slot machine is estimated at $1,000 to $1,500.
An early twentieth century, porcelain Red Crown gasoline sign, estimated at $500 to $700, and a 1940s Coca Cola sign also could be popular vintage items.
A Wurlitzer juke box, circa 1940, that was in the restaurant is estimated at $800 to $1,200.
Four tractors dating from 1928 to 1942, recently were added to the items for bid. They are estimated at $300 to $500 each even though they do not run.
“This auction is a unique opportunity to acquire one-of-a-kind items that could be quite valuable,” said Witherell.
The live auction will be held at the site at 5875 Pope Valley Road, Pope Valley, CA 94567 on September 6, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Preview viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
People must be present to bid.
Unlike many auctions today, there will be no phone or online bidding.
