Chicago’s iconic Southport Corridor will host one of the city’s most popular outdoor events when the Southport Art Festival takes center stage on Saturday, July 15th (10 am to 7 pm) and Sunday, July 16th (10 am to 5pm). Hosted by the Southport Neighbors Association, the Southport Art Festival (which has been named as one of the “Best Festivals in Town” by Chicago’s TimeOut magazine) is free admission and will showcase 75 of the country’s most diverse artists in a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolor, jewelry, sculpture, glass, photography, mixed media and more.
“The Southport Art Festival is a stand-out for so many reasons,” said Amy Amdur, president of Amdur Productions and one of the producers of the Southport Art Festival. “Not only is the art truly spectacular, but the city’s Southport Corridor is one of the hippest and trendiest of all of the city’s neighborhoods,” she adds. “Our artists love exhibiting here, and the community is always so engaging and welcoming. This show, which features an edgy and eclectic mix of art, is definitely one of the highlights of the summer.”
In addition to fabulous art, with booths positioned on Waveland and Southport, attendees will have an opportunity to enjoy live entertainment and great food from neighboring restaurants throughout the entire weekend. Artist demonstrations, interactive art projects, one-on-one booth chats with the artists, and activities for kids (including a carnival with bounce houses, trampolines, and loads of games) makes the Southport Art Festival a wonderful experience for the entire family. There’s even a graffiti wall where everyone is welcome to express their inner artist!
Young art festival attendees are also invited to visit the youth art area to participate in “Draw for the Troops,” a new program launched this year by Amdur Productions. Kids of all ages are welcome to color a special picture for the brave men and women serving our country. At the end of the show, the drawings will be sent by Amdur to the troops stationed in the U.S. and abroad.
Amdur Productions is pleased to announce that Bright Pink is the charity chosen for the Southport Art Festival’s Green Ribbon Project. Participating artists will be placing a green ribbon on a piece of art in their booth. If the piece is sold during the fest, then the artist will donate 10% of the proceeds to Bright Pink. Bright Pink is the only national non-profit organization focused on prevention and early detection of breast and ovarian cancer in young women. The Southport Art Festival benefits the Southport Neighbors Association. Since 1988, the Southport Neighbors Association (SNA) has represented the residents and businesses of the unique and energetic neighborhood, in the heart of Lakeview.
