RAGO AUCTIONS OPEN HOUSE FEATURES A TALK BY PHOTOGRAPHER GEORGE TICE, “SELDOM SEEN: PHOTOGRAPHS, 1968-2011” ON APRIL 22 AT 6 PM.

Lambertville, NJ:  The Rago Arts and Auction Center hosts an open house on Tuesday, April 22, features iconic American photographer George Tice speaking at 6 p.m. on his career and latest publication, “Seldom Seen: Photographs, 1968-2011”.  The talk takes place during the preview week for Rago's Unreserved auctions.

George Tice has received international acclaim for his landscape work and is considered one of the great photographers of the 20th century. Seldom Seen is a 128-page legacy piece published by Brilliant Press and featuring 100 images that, until now, have never been published.  

Tice’s interest in photography arose when he joined a camera club at the age of 14. Edward Steichen first recognized Tice’s work in his role as Director of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, when he chose Tice’s photograph of an explosion aboard the U.S.S. Wasp for the museum’s collection. Tice worked as a portrait photographer for ten years, and then began photographing Amish and Shaker communities and fishermen of Maine. In the 1970’s he turned his eye to his home state of New Jersey. Tice’s work is included in major museum collections around the world. His books of photographs include Fields of Peace: A Pennsylvania German Album (1970), Paterson, New Jersey (1972), Seacoast Maine: People and Places (1973), Urban Landscapes: A New Jersey Portrait (1975), Artie Van Blarcum (1977),Urban Romantic: The photographs of George Tice (1982), Lincoln (1984), Hometowns: An American Pilgrimage (1988), Stone Walls, Grey Skies: A Vision of Yorkshire (1991), George Tice: Selected Photographs 1953-1999 (2001), Urban Landscapes (2002), Paterson II (2006), and Ticetown (2007).

The book Seldom Seen will be available for sale and autograph. So will a recent film about George Tice by Bruce Wooder entitled George Tice: Seeing Beyond the Moment.  

The auction house opens on Tuesday, April 22 at noon. A reception begins at 5 p.m. Mr. Tice will speak at 6 p.m.
