Carlyle's latest online auction features nearly 200 lots of fresh-to-the-market paintings, sculpture, and works on paper. As always, Carlyle’s auction features an eclectic mix of fine art, including: European, American, Russian, Asian, Latin and Middle Eastern, 19th century, modernist, and Old Master paintings and drawings.
Auction Highlights include:
American Paintings
Joseph Stella (1877-1946): The auction features two lots of important Joseph Stella sketches and drawings, which were exhibited at the Whitney Museum’s Joseph Stella show in 1994. Created in the early 1900’s, these superb quality drawings are from a private collection and “fresh to the market”.
Frank Coburn (1862-1938): A rare painting depicting a rainy urban street scene by California artist Frank Coburn is offered at a $1,500 starting price.
American Paintings by Leon Kroll, Hayley Lever, Moses Soyer, Eugene Savage, and Rolph Scarlett, are all up for bidding in Carlyle’s December 22 auctions.
European Paintings:
A highly desirable 1920’s watercolor painting, of a harbor sunset by Jean Dufy (188-1964) is offered with a reasonable $18,000-25,000 estimate.
Other works by French impressionist / modern masters in Carlyle’s December 22 auction include works, by: Jules Cavailles, Bernard Lorjou, Georges D’Espagnat, Maurice Bompard, and Jean Helion.
Two paintings by Lithuanian-French artist Vytautas Kasiulis (1918-1995) depicting musicians are offered with starting prices of $2,000. The oil on canvas includes original 1960’s purchase receipt from Kasiulis’ Paris gallery.
European Mid-Century modern highlights include an abstract painting by French-Belgian modernist Joseph Lacasse (1894-1975), and a rare 1950’s aluminum wall sculpture by French-Romanian artist Etienne Hajdu (1907-1996).
Asian & Middle Eastern Art:
Up for bidding is a rare 1960’s modernist painting by French-Algerian Abdelkader Guermaz (1919-1996). Painted in Paris in 1965, this painting is from an important private collection and offered on the market for the first time. Starting price is $3,500.
The auction also features works by Avinash Chandra, Iran Darroudi, and Romeo Tabuena.
Old Master Paintings:
As always Carlye is offering a wide selection of Old Master paintings and drawings including early Renaissance Italian, Flemish and Norther European paintings, including a large work on paper attributed to Tiepolo.
Starting prices on some lots are only $100, with most items in the $3,000-5,000 range, making them highly accessible to collectors of all budgets.
