Richmond Hill, ON – 888 Auctions’ July 24 sale of Chinese Coins and International Jewellery realized a total amount of over $125,000. This sale, comprising 516 lots, attracted over 70 registered bidders in over 20 countries. 

There was a growing excitement in the auction house as it introduced its first monthly sale with a heavy emphasis on its Chinese numismatic coin collection. The results confirmed the vibrant and growing world-wide market for Chinese coins: 119 lots out of 125 lots coins sold to the highest bidder. Although the general sell-through rate for the July 24 auction was a little over 65%, coins achieved an excellent sell-through rate of 95%.

Other than numismatic category, the top price achieved was Lot 24 Chinese Lychee Painting Qi Baishi (1864-1957). Although conservatively estimated at $4,000-$8,000 the Chinese watercolour painting by Qi Baishi achieved $15,000. In addition, Lot 136 Chinese Chicken Blood Stone Carved Seal was sold for $1,500, double its pre-sale high estimate of $600.

From the jade carved works of art, Lot 86 Chinese Emerald Green Jadeite Buddha Pendant was sold for $950 after a competitive bidding battle between online bidders and telephone bidders. Finishing off the auction was the sale of Lot 424, an antique Chinese Double Edged Sword & Scabbard which sold for $1200.
