Celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Show House, the Junior League of Boston has announced that the 2016 Show House will be the 1854 Nathaniel Allen House in Newton, Massachusetts. This premier design event will be held May 7, 2016 through June 5, 2016 and will feature the creative talents of the Boston area’s finest designers. Steven Favreau of Favreau Design is excited to announce that he has been selected to participate.
Favreau will transform the Library and the Art Salon of the Nathaniel Allen House. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the Nathaniel Allen House was the site of the earliest co-educational school in the country and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. Owned by the Newton Cultural Alliance (NCA) since 2012, the property will support small and medium sized performances and cultural events.
“The Art Salon was created to dramatically showcase a selection of the homeowners’ most prized possessions. It is meant to be both a luxurious and sophisticated public space, in which to entertain one’s guests, as well as a comfortable private refuge,” explains Favreau. “The library pays homage to Nathaniel Allen’s historical significance, while still functioning as a stylish room for a young, well-traveled family. The tartan fabric pays tribute to Allen’s Scottish heritage while the contrasting wall fabric, which seems to evoke an expansive landscape, speaks to his dream for peace, happiness and freedom for all. A strong message indeed, but the room is also designed as a peaceful respite to retreat, contemplate and relax.”
All proceeds from the 2016 Show House will go exclusively to fund the Junior League of Boston’s charitable mission. Favreau would like to thank all who donated their time and products to help transform the Library and Art Salon and contributed to this fantastic cause, especially Robert Allen for providing hand-crafted upholstery throughout both rooms as well as Webster and Company and Vaughn Lighting for their gorgeous hand blown lighting instillations. Favreau also collaborated with Susan Lanoue of Lanoue Gallery who provided all of the artwork on display in the Art Salon.
The completed Show House will launch with a Preview Party on Thursday, May 5th. The Show House will open to the public on Mother’s Day Weekend, starting May 7th, and running through June 5th. The Nathaniel Allen House is located at 35 Webster Street in West Newton. Hours are Wednesday 10:00am-4:00pm, Thursday and Friday 10:00am - 8:00pm, Saturday & Sunday 10:00am - 5:00pm. Closed Mondays. Tuesdays, the Show House may be rented for special events and groups. Every Wednesday Favreau and participating designers will be on hand to answer questions and interact with visitors.
