JHAA Announces Important Taos Society Works & New Highlights

Jackson, Wyoming – September 16-17, 2016 – Trailside Galleries and the Gerald Peters Gallery are pleased to announce the tenth annual Jackson Hole Art Auction, scheduled for September 16-17, 2016 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Both sessions will be held at the award-winning Center for the Arts in downtown Jackson Hole. Jason Brooks will serve as auctioneer.
Among the highlights is an important collection of masterworks by Taos Society of Artists members, including Walter Ufer’s October. The 31 ½ x 47 ¼ oil on canvas is estimated at $300,000-$450,000. The painting hails from an important private collection and is fresh to the auction market. Ernest Blumenschein’s oil on canvas entitled Rock of Fire - Morning, Ghost Ranch, ca. 1925 is also being offered at $300,000-$450,000. Additional works by Taos Society artists include Joseph Henry Sharp’s October Morning - Crow Tepees, Montana (20 x 24, $175,000-$250,000), Bert Geer Phillips’ painting Fall Splendor (22 ¼ x 52 ¼, $300,000-$500,000), and Eanger Irving Couse’s Turkey Hunter in the Aspens (20 x 24, $100,000-$160,000).
The Jackson Hole Art Auction is also pleased to offer a selection of important Native American portraits by E.S. Paxson, including Louison "The Judge" Flathead Chief, 1914 (27 x 20, $40,000-$60,000), Northern Sioux Brave (17 ¼ x 14, $20,000-$30,000), and AK-ENE (24 x 20, $30,000-$50,000).
Other western highlights include high-quality works by Charles M. Russell, Olaf Wieghorst, John Clymer, and N.C. Wyeth.
Current highlights of the Session I sale include small works by Gerard Curtis Delano, John Banovich, and Henry Farny. The objective of the Session I sale, scheduled for September 16, is to offer well-curated, high quality works for the young or emerging art collector.
