Cleveland, Ohio – (November 29, 2016) Gray’s December catalogue has a very wide variety of items from fine art, various styles of furniture, and decorative art from prominent estates throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. The fully illustrated catalog is now online at LiveAuctioneers.com. The auction will begin with many Russian Style Gilt Silver and Green Guilloche Enameled Frames, bearing brilliant colors and vibrant gemstones including emeralds, garnets, and some with seed pearls. Many Fabergé Enameled Egg Form Pendants follow these lovely frames, including lot 25, A Fabergé Enameled and Carved Egg Form Pendant Necklace, with fourteen pendants with Fabergé hallmarks.
The catalogue continues to a series of framed works and busts and figural sculptures, including lot 132, a patinated metal sculpture depicting a winged angel holding a bow and arrow. Many of these small sculptures are referencing Italian styles of depicting form and gesture. Lot 221 is a pair of Venetian gilt carved mermaid and merman pedestals, 19th Century.
The auction contains a selection of Asian style items and furniture, Chinese arm chairs, display stands, lacquered boxes, Japanese glass, and lot 186, a fabulous Japanese silk embroidered kimono, 20th Century. The kimono displays a beautiful floral embroidery with a cerulean blue gradient gracefully transitioning over the span of the silk.
The auction also contains a selection of American, Federal, Victorian and German furniture pieces, including lot 224, a contemporary German mahogany grandfather clock, with a beautiful intricate moon face. One interesting piece of furniture is lot 229, a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk, 19th/20th Century, fitted with three trays and a glass top. On the exterior the writing reads 'J.C. Hutchins, Chicago USA' and interior labels read 'Marshall Fields & Co.' and 'Louis Vuitton Paris/London'. A beautiful selection of Kerman, Persian and Kashan wool rugs follow the furniture lots.
The catalogue ends with a collection of contemporary artworks including several heliogravures by Victor Vasarely, such as lot 361 titled Planetary. The work is stamped on verso 'Victor Vasarely, Quasar-2, 100cmx100cm, 1972' and copyright '1974 Editions du Griffon, Neuchatel/Suisse'. Lot 378 is a Salvador Dali, titled ‘Lincoln in Dalivision.’ The work comes with a gold plated magnifying key in original box. When viewed through the magnifying glass, Lincoln’s face becomes identifiable. Finally, bringing the catalogue to a close are several woodcuts by Joichi Hoshi. In lot 401, his work titled ‘Clump of Trees in Winter’ is a beautiful and delicate depiction of the season now upon us.
