Part of the proceeds from Eldred’s tenth annual Contemporary Paintings Auction on Wednesday, August 12 will be donated to the Turlough “Mighty” Meehan Research Foundation, which funds pediatric leukemia research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. The auction includes 190 works, many by well-known Cape Cod artists. The auction is preceded by a cocktail reception preview open to the public beginning at 4 p.m. The auction begins at 6:30 p.m.
Highlights from the sale include five expansive landscapes by Joseph McGurl, a portrait of “Christina” by New York artist Steven Assael, five works by Robert Remsen Vickrey, “After the Croquet Match” by Richard K. Loud and four watercolors by Massachusetts artist Doug Brega. Cape Cod artists represented include Anne Packard, Robert Roark, William R. Davis, Elizabeth Mumford and Sam Barber.
With an extensive array of mediums, styles and sizes of artwork being offered and pre-auction estimates falling within a wide range of price points, the Contemporary Paintings Auction provides both novice auction-goers and serious collectors a chance to add to their collections while also supporting a good cause.
This is the third year Eldred’s has partnered with the Turlough Meehan Research Foundation on this event. The Foundation was created in 2007 by Amanda-Clare Cunningham and Phelim Meehan after their infant son passed away from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) when he was just six months old. Money raised by the Foundation is earmarked exclusively for Infant ALL studies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, with the hopes of identifying the cause of the disease, which is fatal in half of all cases, and discovering a cure for it. The Foundation also conducts bone marrow drives and organizes the MM5K, a popular fundraising road race held on Cape Cod each September.
“In his short life Turlough Meehan made a huge impact on our local community. Eldred’s is honored to partner with organizations like the Turlough Meehan Research Foundation and Dana-Farber, who are working so hard to ensure no other family suffers a loss like Turlough’s,” said Josh Eldred, Eldred’s vice president and director of the Contemporary Paintings Auction. “We’ve got a great selection of works going up for auction and we’re really looking forward to raising a lot of money for this important cause. With so many works by local artists included in the sale, it’s also a great opportunity to support the vibrant arts community here on Cape Cod.”
A cocktail reception preview immediately preceding the auction begins at 4 p.m. Peyton Wright Lambton, a frequent guest star with her husband Chris Lambton on the HGTV network, will also be on-hand as a representative of Stella & Dot jewelry and accessories. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Stella & Dot items will also be donated to the Turlough Meehan Research Foundation.
The auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. Both the cocktail reception preview and the auction will take place at the company’s main facility located 1483 Route 6A, in East Dennis, Massachusetts. Interested bidders can visit www.eldreds.com for a complete sale listing and to register to bid via phone, absentee bid or online. Online bidding will be hosted by Invaluable.com. Those wishing to bid live in the audience may register at the offices the day of the auction.
