Adirondack Mountains Antiques Show in Indian Lake, N.Y., and Adirondack Museum Antiques Show and Sale in Blue Mountain Lake, N.Y., work together to present range of rustic antiques during the height of the mountain fall foliage season.

From all compass points, and distances near and far, dealers in high quality antiques from across the country are converging in the Adirondack wilderness for two signature events, the Adirondack Mountains Antiques Show in Indian Lake, N.Y., held Wednesday, Sept. 14, through Sunday, Sept. 18, and the Adirondack Museum  Antiques Show and Sale, held Saturday, Sept. 17, and Sunday, Sept. 18.

They’re bringing with them a treasure-trove of high-quality art, antiques, collectibles and other vintage items—much of it curated with a rustic Adirondack sensibility—including camp, cottage, Mission, and Old Hickory furniture; rare books; vintage boats; antique sporting goods; taxidermy; quilts; historical fine art and folk art; militaria; oriental rugs; Native American jewelry and artifacts; and much more.

More than 100 dealers are expected to exhibit at two shows, held in the two mountain hamlets located about 11 miles from one another on idyllic New York State Route 28/30, in the very center of the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park. 

Adirondack Antiquing Adventure

Dealers set up throughout the center of the hamlet of Indian Lake, either renting space in the yards of homeowners or at the main space, in the front yard of the town’s school, and along the road in the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake.  Although the show runs from Wednesday, Sept. 14, through Sunday, Sept. 18, its charming, dispersed nature means exhibitors set up and close at various times, based on the weather, crowds and other factors.  Visitors seldom know what treasures they’ll find until they get there, or from which unique dealers, but know they’ll find something worth cherishing, both in goods and memories of the distinctive experience.

Collecting at the Museum on the Mountain

Up the mountain in the hamlet of Blue Mountain Lake, visitors will also find the Adirondack Museum’s annual Antiques Show and Sale, held this year on the weekend of September 17 and 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, and included with general museum admission.

“The museum’s antiques show is probably the finest gathering of its kind, in both dealers and antique merchandise,” says Lake Placid antiques dealer David Zabriskie, a veteran of many antiques gatherings around the U.S.  “It gives people the opportunity to purchase items for their homes and their collections that lend themselves to a ‘camp’ setting . . . whether it’s a balsam pillow, a great mosaic corner cupboard, Old Hickory furniture, paintings from the area, canoes, twig decor of all sorts, etc.”

The show and sale are organized by Rod Lich, Inc., of Georgetown, Ind.  Lich and his wife Susan Parrett have more than 35 years of experience creating premier antiques shows throughout the country.  One of their hallmarks is creating a show that caters to a wide range of interests, from beginning collectors to serious connoisseurs, and plans for visitors’ needs, from restful seating to merchandise shipping services.
