A rare confederate map by William Aiken Walker.

Wooten & Wooten Auctioneers is pleased to announce strong results for their summer sale, which took place on July 25, 2015 in Camden, South Carolina.  The Southeast’s fastest growing auction house, Wooten & Wooten Auctioneers is quickly becoming known for their fine offerings of Southern Americana.  This sale included a rare Confederate map by William Aiken Walker which realized $22,800 (including premium).  The piece was created by Walker during his time in the Confederate Engineers Corps and is the only signed (in type) printed example of his cartography; the map was purchased by a Southern institution.

Another outstanding piece going to a public collection is an important Robert Scott Duncanson oil on canvas that was discovered by the owner in Central North Carolina.  The piece, dated 1848 , was purchased by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston bringing $20,400.  Other outstanding pieces from this sale included a fine Reed & Barton Francis I sterling tea service ($10,800), a 1775 map of North & South Carolina by Henry Mouzon  ($8,400) and a 19th century Kentucky long rifle ($6,300).

“It is thrilling finding these items and knowing that they are going to such wonderful collections, both public and private”, said Rebecca Wooten, the managing director, a graduate of the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture.  “We enjoy seeing the journey that each piece takes from wonderful collections throughout the East Coast to their new homes, both here and abroad.” Wooten & Wooten has an extensive database of buyers throughout the world, and has enjoyed forming relationships that have led to repeat clients.  “Jeremy (Wooten, owner and lead auctioneer) and I, truly enjoy getting to know our consignors and buyers. It means so much to us when they return to the next auction and recommend us to their family and friends.”

Wooten & Wooten is looking forward to their two-day Fall auction offering a landmark collection of nautical and whaling items, as well as select pieces of Southern pottery.  The sale will also include several fine collections of artwork, furniture and other decorative arts from around the Southeast.   Wooten & Wooten is always accepting quality consignments for future sales.  Please contact Rebecca Wooten at 866-570-0144 or info@wootenandwooten.com for consignment inquires or to be added to their mailing list.
